The Office of Ceremonies & Events is responsible for all aspects of the use of and the lowering of the Canadian and University flags on campus as required.
About the Lowering of the Flag
The University of Toronto Scarborough has three main flags in three locations on campus.
The Canadian flag is located atop of the science wing (SW), and is subject to specific protocol as dictated by the Canadian Government (Canadian Heritage).
The University of Toronto flags are situated in front of the Arts & Administration Building (AA), and the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre, and are subject to university protocol. On special occasions, the University of Toronto flag is replaced with other flags such as the Pride and Trans flags.
The Ceremonies Office arranges for the lowering of the flag for events such as the passing of a member of the campus community and occasions of national significance.
Effective April 23rd, 2020, all flag lowering announcements will be posted here. Notices will no longer be sent to campus via email.

All flags will fly at half-mast until Monday, January 30, 2023, in memory of David Onley, former lieutenant-governor and UofT alumnus
Today flags across our campuses will fly at half-mast until Monday, January 30 in memory of David Onley, a passionate advocate for disability rights and accessibility whose close relationship with the university spanned decades. Onley was an alumnus of U of T Scarborough where he was a senior lecturer in its political science department, and also served as lieutenant governor of Ontario from 2007 to 2014 following a distinguished career as a broadcaster.
All flags (Canada, Ontario, U of T) will be flown at half-mast on Tuesday, December 6, 2022 in recognition of the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women
On Tuesday, December 6, 2022, from 12:30 to 2:30 pm, U of T will join communities across Canada for the National Day of Remembrance and Action for Violence Against Women (NDRAVAW) to honour the lives of the 14 women killed in a devastating act of misogyny at Montreal’s École Polytechnique in 1989. All faculty, staff, students, and librarians are invited to join in-person or virtually for this tri-campus event.
In honour of the occasion, all flags (Canada, Ontario, U of T) will be flown at half-mast.
The University of Toronto flag will fly at half-mast on Monday, November 28, 2022, in memory of Larry Newman, Service Worker, Facilities Management.
We are grateful for his 19 years of service to the institution.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, November 28th, 2022, at the Artful Dodger Pub, 10 Isabella St, Toronto, from 6pm-9pm. All are welcome to attend.

In honour of Remembrance Day, all flags (Canada and U of T) will be flown at half-mast on Friday, November 11, 2019.
Please join us for our annual Remembrance Day service, featuring the UTSC Concert Band, Concert Choir & String Orchestra.
The Ceremony will take place at 10:45 a.m. on Friday, November 11, 2022 in the Meeting Place.
