Remembering Professor David Onley (1950-2023)

It is with deep sadness that we mourn the loss of Professor David Onley.

David joined our department in 2014 after completing a seven-year term as lieutenant-governor of Ontario, which followed his career in broadcast journalism. As a proud graduate of the University of Toronto Scarborough he was always an enthusiastic champion for UTSC. He was passionate about the two courses he developed for our department on the role of the Crown in the Canadian political system and on the politics of disability in Canada. He was deeply devoted to his students. Throughout his career, his insight and advocacy improved accessibility in Canada and, indeed, in our own university and department. We are fortunate to have known David and to have had such a kind and caring colleague and teacher. Our community will organize to honor his memory and his many contributions. We will keep you updated once we have more information to share.
