REGULAR GARBAGE

• Uncontaminated refuse (e.g. paper towels, wrappers)

• Decontaminated Risk Group 1 biological solids

• Containers provided by Facilities Management

• Disposal by Custodial Services

RECYCLING

• Uncontaminated recyclable materials (e.g. paper,  cardboard, plastics)

• Containers provided by Facilities Management

• Disposal by Custodial Services

NOTE: Larger items such as broken down cardboard boxes can be left outside of the lab in the hallway by the elevator. Custodial Services will retrieve these items for recycling.

CHEMICAL WASTE

• Chemical waste and contaminated solids (e.g. gloves, paper towels, pipet tips, scintillation vials)

• Do not fasten lids for contaminated solids, these pails will be emptied into larger drums

• Containers provided by CHMStores

• Bring full containers to CHMStores for disposal

SHARPS

• Sharps waste (e.g. needles, syringes, lancets, blades)

• Designate, separate and label as biological or chemical waste

• Containers purchased by lab

• Bring full containers to CHMStores for disposal

GLASS

• Uncontaminated laboratory glassware (e.g. broken clean beakers, flasks, bottles)

• Containers provided by Facilities Management

• Bring full containers to CHMStores for disposal
