History, Settlement and Territoriality in East Jerusalem

This project considers how religious Zionist settlers in East Jerusalem have used and transformed narratives stemming from biblical archaeology, as well as their control of a biblical archaeological site (called “The City of David”), to extend Israeli control over the Silwan area of East Jerusalem. The research for this project was initially done for an MA thesis in 1998-1999, and included ethnographic fieldwork, interviews with planners and officials, and archival research on touristic development in Jerusalem.
