First Year Learning Communities (FLCs) help first-year students make connections within their program of study. FLCs meet bi-weekly to participate in workshops and activities focused on academic skills development, career exploration, and socialization. Each FLC is assigned an FLC Leader, an upper-year student from a similar program of study.

The First Year Learning Communities Program offers the following FLCs:

  • Arts (Humanities, Social Sciences & Visual Arts)

  • Computer & Mathematical Sciences*

  • Life Sciences

  • Physical & Environmental Sciences

  • Psychological & Health Sciences

For program information and to apply, visit the Student Life Programs website

*Computer Science, Mathematics and Statistics students are automatically enrolled in the First Year Learning Communities Program. Over the summer months, you will receive information about the First Year Learning Communities Program and what to expect for the fall.

The First-Year Learning Integration Program (FLIP) is a co-curricular program for incoming first-year Management students. It is intended to make your first-year transition smoother, easier, and more successful by helping develop academic, personal, and career skills; build connections and support systems; and learn strategies for success. As part of FLIP, two upper-year Management student mentors will support you year-round while leading you through workshops, events, and socials where you will learn important skills and make connections with fellow Management students!
