Why Pursue the MAccFin at U of T Scarborough?
History of Excellence in Accounting and Finance
The Department of Management has a long and distinguished history of providing an excellent education in accounting and finance. Students are well prepared to meet the requirements of careers in both accounting and finance. Our success rate for students completing their professional exams in accounting is exceptionally high. A U of T Scarborough student was the Uniform Evaluation Final Exam (UFE) Gold Medalist in 2007 and a number of our students have earned spots on the national UFE honour roll over the past few years (namely 2007, 2011, 2012 [three students], and 2013). In 2014, the last year that performance data was released by the CPA profession, our UFE pass rate was 94%.
- We have two graduates on the 2017 CPA-CFE National Honour Roll, a huge achievement!
Our finance area has also been an area of strength as many of our students pass the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Level I exam before or upon graduation after completing a wide range of finance courses covering many areas and topics.

The MAccFin program offers a unique blend of courses designed to give students the opportunity to meet the CPA Ontario, CFA, and ACCA requirements. Students will also complete courses in leadership, data analytics, and strategy as part of their preparation to become strategic decision-makers and leaders of industry.
- The MAccFin degree is an ideal fit with the CPA program. The integration of a wide range of knowledge, including accounting and finance, is one of the main factors that makes the CPA designation a pre-eminent business credential. To become a Chartered Professional Accountant, candidates must also complete the academic pre-requisite requirements, the Professional Education Program (PEP), the Common Final Examination (CFE), and 30 months of qualifying practical experience.
- The curriculum in the MAccFin is based on the Candidate Body of Knowledge (CBOK) from the CFA program and will cover concepts and skills that students will use at all stages of their careers. This strong foundation of knowledge is part of what makes the CFA credential the most respected and recognized investment management designation in the world. To earn the Chartered Financial Analyst credentials, candidates must complete the CFA program and at least 48 months of qualifying work experience.
- MAccFin graduates will be eligible for direct entry to the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) Strategic Professional Level exams, opening up even greater access to career opportunities in the U.K. and 80 other countries that adhere to ACCA guidelines.
