The Plumptre Lecture: Prof. Pamela Medina Quispe

Pamela Medina Quispe

On June 7, join Prof. Pamela Medina Quispe, recipient of the 2022/23 Wynne and Beryl Plumptre Research Award, to discuss her leading-edge research into technology adoption, economic growth, and the international flow of capital goods.

A fundamental lesson from the past 60 years of development research is that sustained economic growth is the most effective way to lift a country’s population out of poverty and improve people’s well-being through access to education, health care, and infrastructure; however, developing countries still struggle to achieve long-run economic growth compared to developed countries—a gap that does not appear to be closing.

In this talk, Prof. Medina Quispe will explore whether acquiring new capital goods is the best strategy to spur technology adoption, economic growth, and welfare gains in the developing world. In particular, her research will highlight alternative economic policies to promote the uptake of new capital goods.

Join us for an illuminating discussion, open to all U of T faculty, staff, students, alumni, and community.
