Meeting with a Counsellor

A counsellor may suggest that one on one counselling is the best option to address your current concerns. There are a number of options that may be suggested:

  • Single Session therapy, in which you meet with a counsellor one time only to discuss your concern and come up with possible solutions.
  • Short term counselling support may be recommended.  With your counsellor, you will create a plan for these sessions. The sessions will likely occur every other week to one time per month. Goals are evaluated on an ongoing basis to ensure your needs are being met. The Health & Wellness Centre is not able to provide long term counselling.  If it is determined that you require longer term support, we will work with you to find appropriate resources in your community.

A service agreement [PDF] will be reviewed with you at the beginning of counselling to ensure you understand the risks and benefits of counselling, as well your rights and responsibilities. All the information shared during an appointment is confidential.
