Michelle Pannor Silver is a gerontologist whose research examines perceptions of aging across the life course, health information seeking behaviors, and the phenomenon that is retirement. In a variety of ways, her work questions what it means to age from a personal, professional, and social vantage point. Her current research, funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), studies adaptation to athletic retirement and perceptions about aging among elite athletes as well as embodiment and perceptions about the aging body. Through another current project, she is developing the notion of working in place – a work-lifestyle characterized by continuing to do the same type of work one has always done despite changes in life circumstances, such as retirement.
