Academic, Wellness and On-campus Support Services

UTSC offers a variety of resources and support services to assist students as they navigate their undergraduate studies.

Academic advising is offered at the Department for students contemplating or pursuing our minor, major, or specialist programs.

Academic Resources

The Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) offers a variety of support services, including:

  • The Writing Centre - This free service is open to all University of Toronto Scarborough students and supports student learning at any stage in the writing process, from planning an outline to polishing a final draft. The Centre offers appointments, drop-in hours, writing groups and clinics and online resources. 
  • English Language Development (ELD) Support - The ELDC offers a suite of co-curricular academic support programs such as workshops and seminars, Communication Cafes and the Reading and Writing Excellence (RWE) program, as well as one-on-one consultations, Academic English Health Checks (AEHC) and online resources to enhance academic English and communication skills and help students communicate more effectively.
  • Facilitated Study Groups (FSGs) - In these weekly study groups for selected UTSC courses, students will discuss the lecture material and important concepts, develop study strategies and fresh approaches, and work through problems as a group to prepare for assignments and tests.

The AA&CC provides a wide variety of resources and supports to help students with their study skills, learning and academic and career planning by integrating developmental advising, learning skills, career counselling and employment coaching through individual appointments, workshops, experiential programming, events and a range of online resources.

In addition to its large collection and access to the entire UofT Library system, the UTSC Library provides research assistance in person, by telephone, through email, and through the online Ask a Librarian chat service.  Students can book an appointment with a liaison librarian to assist with finding resources to fulfill course assignments. The Liaison Librarian for the Department of Historical and Cultural Studies is Whitney Kemble (see contact information here). Students are encouraged to connect with Whitney early in the term for assistance with course assignments. 

On-campus Resources

The Registrar's Office supports current undergraduate students with their registration, financial needs, scholarships, awards, exams, graduation, petitions, and TCards.

AccessAbility Services provides resources, services and tailored support to students who have a documented learning, physical, sensory, mental health disability or medical condition. The AccessAbility Services office also serves as an academic service and University of Toronto equity office on the U of T Scarborough campus to ensure that policies, practices, procedures and programs at UTSC are inclusive to ensure equal access for students with disabilities.

The Health & Wellness Centre has health care providers who provide medical, nursing, counselling, health promotion and education services to University of Toronto Scarborough students. Any student with a current student card and a valid health card is eligible to use their services.

The International Student Centre (ISC) provides support and guidance to international, exchange and newcomers during their time at UTSC. Transition advisors are available to assist with immigration and transition, and handle any questions or concerns. The ISC also hosts a number of exciting events and programs throughout the year and supports all students with developing their intercultural skills and global mindfullness through their Global Learning programs.

The N’sheemaehn Child Care Centre, located at the North east corner of the campus, is a not-for-profit Centre that is dedicated to providing a happy & positive learning environment for the children in their care. The Centre offers programming for infant, toddler, preschool and kindergarten-aged children. 

Wellness Support Services

The Health & Wellness Centre has health care providers who provide medical, nursing, counselling, health promotion and education services to University of Toronto Scarborough students. Any student with a current student card and a valid health card is eligible to use their services.

The UofT Student Mental Health Resource website, developed in consultation with students, serves as an online portal that makes it easier for students to find mental health services and resources on all three campuses, as well as those of partner organizations in the community. The site also allows students to support their peers by suggesting mental health resources they have personally found valuable, with U of T clinicians and practitioners vetting and adding new resources to the site as appropriate.

My SSP (My Student Support Program) provides all students with immediate and/or ongoing confidential 24/7 counselling support for free. Ongoing support is available over the phone in 146 languages. Immediate support is available over the phone in 35 languages and over chat in simplified Chinese, English, French and Spanish. Students can call or chat with a counsellor directly from their phone whenever, wherever they are.

Navi, short for navigator, is a chat-based service that acts as a virtual assistant for students wanting to learn more about the mental health supports available to them at the University of Toronto.

The Community Safety Office is a University of Toronto Equity Office and Tri-Campus service that offers short-term support and assistance to students, staff, and faculty members of the University of Toronto community who have experienced personal safety concerns including:

  • Stalking and Harassment
  • Bullying and Intimidation
  • Threats
  • Intimate Partner Violence
  • Family Violence
  • Workplace Conflict and Volatile Behaviour

The Sexual Violence Prevention and Support Centre is here to help and support students, staff and faculty at the University of Toronto who have been affected by sexual violence or sexual harassment.

The Centre offers confidential, non-judgmental, client-centred services. We’re here to help you understand, access and navigate supports such as counselling, medical services, academic or workplace accommodations, financial aid and legal aid. The Centre also works to end sexual violence on campus through training and education.
