The Anita Fitzgerald Prize in Women's and Gender Studies:

This monetary prize is for the best written work (i.e.an essay or report) or project (i.e. in other media) by a University of Toronto Scarborough student written/created for a course assignment during the academic year 2018- 2019. It must be on a topic related to Women's and Gender Studies such as (but not limited to) some aspect of gender, women's roles, activities and experiences, forms of expression, and/or the development and transmission of ideas and attitudes about women and/or gender, or the concerns and problems of women today or in the past.  

Eligible assignments and projects must have been submitted as part of course work in the 2017-2018 academic year and must have been worth at least 25% of the course grade.

The Prize will be given at the UTSC awards event November.

Step 1: For student-: How to submit your work:

  1. If you are submitting a written assignment: it must be sent as a Word document to Kamal Hassan at hcs-ca@utsc.utoronto.ca  Subject line: Fitzgerald Prize. It must be sent by 3:00, Monday, April 29, 2019. Please send a clean, ungraded, copy.
  2. If you are submitting a creative work ( such as creative essays, digital/media projects, and portfolios): Deliver to Heather Seto in HW522, by 3:00, Monday, April 20, 2019. In addition to your submission, email an author's statement or overview of the significance of the project to feminism or Women's and Gender Studies to hcs-ca@utsc.utoronto.ca  Subject line: Fitzgerald Prize.  Maximum 300 words. It must be sent by 3:00, Monday, April 29, 2019.

Step 2: For students and instructors:

Student submissions need to be endorsed by the course instructor. Each work or assignment must be accompanied by a brief statement from the course instructor (maximum 150 words) on a) the originality of the essay's or project's; b) the amount of supervision and/or editorial assistance the student received, and c) the percentage of the course's workload this essay or project represented.  These instructor statements must be sent by Monday, April 29/ 2019, to hcs-ca@utsc.utoronto.ca  Subject line: Fitzgerald Prize (student last name)
