The Green Path Advantage

Green Path – Hong Kong is a 12-week summer experience that transforms people’s lives. It takes qualified secondary school graduates from Hong Kong and turns them into first-year university students at Canada’s highest-ranked university. This program welcomes its first cohort of students in 2022.

The original Green Path Program was launched in 2005 when 15 students from top-tier Chinese high schools came to Canada to study at the University of Toronto Scarborough (U of T Scarborough). Since then, hundreds more of China’s top secondary school graduates have taken advantage of this unique opportunity to realize their educational and career-path ambitions.

More than 4,000 students have successfully studied at the University of Toronto through the Green Path Program during its 19-year history. The University has worked to establish meaningful relationships with partner schools and with parents, making sure that Green Path students get off to a great start in Canada. Each year, a group arrives in late May and lives in residence. The students take classes, go on field trips and pursue activities that prepare them for life in Canada — and, specifically, for undergraduate life at U of T Scarborough in the Fall.

The Green Path focuses on English language skills, life skills, and orientation to Canadian culture and society. Once a student successfully completes the Academic Preparation program, they go directly into undergraduate studies. The success of the Green Path has helped to deepen the relationship between U of T Scarborough and the top source countries of international students, including the People’s Republic of China. This, in turn, has led to new scholarship and Co-op opportunities for Green Path students with companies across China — for example, at the Bank of China headquarters in Beijing and the Fairmount Hotel Nanjing.
