UTSC Graduate Student Emergency Grant

The Office of the Vice-Principal Academic & Dean has launched the UTSC Graduate Student Emergency Grant to support graduate students facing emergent financial shortfalls.

Value and Description

The value of the UTSC Graduate Student Emergency Grant is $250.00 and it is open to UTSC-affiliated students facing immediate financial need. Reasons for requesting the grant may include but are not limited to, problems with food security, travel related to a family emergency, medical costs not fully covered by insurance, abrupt changes in housing circumstances, etc.

Normally eligible graduate students may only apply for the UTSC Graduate Student Emergency Grant once per graduate program. Under exceptional circumstances, students may apply for an additional UTSC Graduate Student Emergency Grant, up to $250.00, within the same graduate program, but they will need to demonstrate financial need as part of the application process.

Eligibility

Eligible students must be

  • enrolled in a graduate program (Masters or PhD)
  • UTSC-affiliated. Information on Campus Affiliation is located under the Administrative Support webpage.
  • registered full-time and not yet completed all of their program requirements

Application Process

Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis.

To apply, eligible students must complete the UTSC Graduate Student Emergency Grant Application form.

Students applying for the first time in their current graduate program to the UTSC Graduate Student Emergency Grant will normally be notified of the result of their application within two weeks.

Students applying for an additional UTSC Graduate Student Emergency Grant within the same graduate program will need to provide financial needs assessment documentation to support their application. Processing times for these applications will typically exceed two weeks.

Students will normally receive grant payments via direct deposit to their personal Canadian bank account in a few days after the grant is processed. If students do not enter banking information on their ACORN account, payments will be issued by cheque and sent by Canada Post to the personal mailing address listed on ACORN. Students should ensure that their current mailing address and associated address expiry date are updated on ACORN to avoid delays in payment.
