The University of Toronto Graduate Student Union (UTGSU) is a voice for over 18,500 students as well as a platform for community building and services. Student fees to the UTGSU enable UTGSU to offer a wide diversity of services to graduate students (health and dental insurance, intramural leagues, funding opportunities, etc.) and advocacy to support graduate students.

The UTGSU has a number of Committees and Caucuses that members can get involved in! More information is available on the UTGSU website.

Student organizations

GSAS

The Graduate Students Association at Scarborough (GSAS) is a student elected body representing graduate students at UTSC. GSAS connects graduate students from different academic departments and strives to improve the graduate experience on campus.

  • GSAS maintains the Graduate and Postdoc Lounge and patio, located in SW524A, and organizes social events for graduate students.Consult the news and events section for upcoming GSAS events.
  • GSAS publishes The Valley, UTSC's campus-wide journal that contain creative works by students, opinion sections, highlights of recent research and accomplishments of UTSC graduate students/postdocs and much more!   • GSAS works with the VP Research Office on the Graduate Student Seminar Series inviting external speakers to present at UTSC and offering a venue for graduate students to present their research.
  • GSAS also works with the Vice-Dean Graduate on various initiatives including the New Frontier Seminar Series and the UTSC Graduate Student Summer Gym Rebate.
  • Collaborating with the Centre for Teaching & Learning (CTL), the Academic Advising & Career Centre (AA&CC) and the Graduate Association for Professional Skills (GAPS), GSAS provides professional training and workshops.

GMCA@UTSC

There are chapters of the Graduate Management Consulting Association on all three University of Toronto campuses. GMCA@UTSC curates a professional skills program through mentorship and experiential learning to develop the future leaders in management consulting. GMCA@UTSC offers the very popular 10-week miniMBA program at the Scarborough Campus. Graduate Student Representation Opportunities

Graduate students are encouraged to participate on committees and in student organizations at the University. Some of the opportunities include:

UTSC Campus Council - Campus objectives and priorities. 

UTSC Academic Affairs Committee - Teaching, learning and research functions.

UTSC Campus Affairs Committee - Quality of student and campus life.

UTSC Agenda Committee - Directs the flow of business within the UTSC Campus Council.

Graduate Student Association at Scarborough (GSAS) - Improve student life for UTSC graduate students.
