What is Experiential Learning?

Experiential learning is a pedagogical approach grounded in the application of theoretical and academic knowledge in practical contexts and real-world settings and the intentional reflection on this practice.

Experiential Learning is one of the hallmarks of the U of T Scarborough approach to education. We strive to give students a head-start on their future by enhancing their academic studies with opportunities that connect them to the world-at-large. We provide various experiential learning opportunities in both curricular and co-curricular contexts.

What is U of T Scarborough Experiential?

We are the leaders in co-operative education at the University of Toronto. The rich experience gained during their work term allows U of T Scarborough co-op students to make unique contributions to their classes upon return to campus. We are unique in the tri-campus landscape of the University of Toronto in terms of our investment in supports for opportunities that take students off campus--this is particularly clear in intensive summer-session course offerings that allow returning students to keep up with their programs.Experiential learning is a pedagogical approach grounded in the application of theoretical and academic knowledge in practical contexts and real-world settings and the intentional reflection on this practice.

Upon graduation, U of T Scarborough students have earned a top-calibre, post-secondary degree that will take them wherever they want to go. But through additional educational experiences such as co-operative learning, research assistantships, internships, community volunteerism, and co-curricular participation in campus life, U of T Scarborough graduates will make that journey faster, with more skill, and a greater sense of confidence and purpose.

Experiential Learning opportunities are clustered in several focus areas, including Cooperative (Co-op) & Work-Integrated Learning (WIL), Community Engaged Learning (CEL) & Civic Engagement, Innovation & Entrepreneurship, International / Global Education, and Research.
