Student News and Celebrations

We have wonderful news and congratulations to announce, so please join us in celebrating a round-up of student success stories from UTSC English!

English Student Wins Student Leadership Award

Farah Rahim, a double major in English and in Co-op program in Public Policy, is the recipient of the University of Toronto Student Leadership Award in acknowledgement for her outstanding service in different capacities at UTSC, including in her current positions as President of the Students of English Literature and Film (SELF) and the Student Leader of our local chapter of Sigma Tau Delta (the International English Honor Society).

Congratulations, Farah -- and very well deserved!

Students Present at Education Conference

On March 6th, Prof. Maria Assif and three undergraduate UTSC English students -- Sonya Ho, Shalizeh Minaee, and Farah Rahim -- presented the preliminary results of their collaborative research project at the 16th Annual Education and Development Conference. The title of their talk was "Decolonizing the Writing Curriculum: A Case Study of Undergraduate Students as Partners (SaP) in an English First-Year Writing Course."

Two other English students, Alexa DiFrancesco and Harveer Yeates, joined the featured Education and Development 2021 Panel on "The Next Generation Education: Students' Perspectives." Both Alexa and Harveer focused on the challenges students face in transitioning from high school to university as well as the importance of accessibility and mental health support at the institutional level.

We are happy to welcome these students into our community of scholarship and pedagogy, and we look forward to seeing their future work!
