ENGD18H3F Topics in the Long 18th Century: Jane Austen in Context

Instructor: Anne Milne

Meeting Time: Wednesdays 11:00am - 2:00pm

The course aspires to locate Jane Austen and her oeuvre in a broader eighteenth-century context. We’ll explore what Austen read and where she lived, as well the material, social, and political contexts that underpin her work. Not for the faint-hearted, this is a hard-core eighteenth-century course aiming to illuminate the work of one of the few Western female authors who has pretty much always been included in the literary canon. This course is zombie-free, but there may be dancing.

Note: Pre-1900 course
