Course Name: Literature & Culture (1750-1830)

Instructor: Prof. Anne Milne

Course Description: An exploration of literature and literary culture during the end of the eighteenth and beginning of the nineteenth centuries. We will trace the development of a consciously national culture, and birth of the concepts of high, middle, and low cultures. Authors may include Johnson, Boswell, Burney, Sheridan, Yearsley, Blake, and Wordsworth. 

Course Features: The course will deal with topics about Language, Love, Colonialism, Chinoiserie, Slavery, Labour, Gothic, Nature.
 
Delivery: ENGC37 will be delivered in-person.
