Alum and USC Prof Adrian De Leon on the Asian-American Experience

Adrian De Leon and Dolly Li on a couch, talking for PBS digital studios

Adrian De Leon, one of our esteemed alumni and creative writing advocate for Scarborough, has launched a new mini series on Asian American history and identity. Adrian, who is a professor of American Studies and Ethnicity at USC, collaborated with journalist Dolly Li and PBS Voices to produce "A People's History of Asian America." Episodes dropped throughout May, covering topics from microaggressions to the racist history of "the China Virus", to intesectional feminism and the question of "Asian American" as an identity category.

You can read about Adrian's series at the PBS series page, and of course check out the episodes themselves at the PBS Voices channel on YouTube. Our Alumni Office has also written up a profile of Adrian and his time at UTSC, which you can read here: UTSC alum Adrian De Leon on teaching the ‘first principles’ of the Asian American experience
