Welcome to the CTL English Language Development Support

Fall 2020 ELD Supports

The English Language Development (ELD) Support for Fall 2020 is fully online so students can get help and support no matter where you are located during the pandemic.

3 types of support are available:

  1. Reading and Writing Excellence (RWE) program: Personalized support from expert writing instructors to help students develop the academic reading and critical thinking skills as well as write to meet university-level expectations.
UPDATE: Registration for the Fall RWE program has closed.  If you would like to receive an alert from us to enable you to sign up for the Winter RWE session, please complete this form [CLICK HERE]

  2. ELD Consultations: Confidential one-on-one virtual consultation. Book a consultation [here]. Instructions on how to book an ELD Consultation can be found on the ELD Support Consultation page [here].

  3. Online English Discussion Circles - Are you looking for opportunities to develop and practice your speaking, academic communication and conversation skills in English?

The Online English Discussion Circles offer a welcoming environment for undergraduate students who are looking to connect with other students, discuss interesting topics and build skills and confidence in their English language conversation and oral, academic communication skills. Instructor-facilitated sessions are supported by friendly student peers and limited in size to ensure everyone can participate. Sessions are limited to 15 participants per session. Sign up for one – or both. More to sessions come!

TOPIC: How to Connect, Stand out – Even Online
    DATE/TIME: Wednesday, November 11th, 9:00am - 10:00am (Toronto Eastern Time)
It seems like we’ve all become little boxes in our online class, meeting, and tutorial screens. Come join us for a facilitated discussion in which, together, we will consider who we are and how we can stand out, even in the virtual room. This peer supported discussion group offers lots of opportunity to practice speaking as you converse with your peers while providing instructor guidance on strategies to improve your speaking in an academic setting. Your zoom link will be sent to you the day before the event.

    TOPIC: Presentation skills
    DATE/TIME: Wednesday, November 18th, 9:00am - 10:00am (Toronto Eastern Time)
Improve your confidence and your presentations. This online interactive session is designed to help you improve your presentations skills. Our mission is not to build the best presenter, and there is no need to worry that you will be asked to present in front of a large group at this session. This is all about getting you comfortable and working towards improving your confidence, presentational style and communication. Your zoom link will be sent to you the day before the event.
