Joint Health and Safety Committee

Joint Health and Safety Committee

The University of Toronto Scarborough, as an employer, is responsible under the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) for establishing and maintaining a Joint Health and Safety Committee. This advisory committee, which consists of worker representatives and management members, meets quarterly to discuss health and safety concerns, conducts monthly inspections of the workplace, and makes recommendations to management.

As an integral part of the Internal Responsibility System, the Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) helps to raise awareness of health and safety issues in the workplace; recognizes and identifies workplace risks; and develops recommendations for the University to address these risks.
