As part of UTSC’s commitment to Inclusive Excellence, all U of T staff and faculty have an essential role to play in creating and promoting an inclusive, respectful and equitable campus community – this includes understanding the negative impacts of microaggressions. Advancing equity and inclusion at the University of Toronto requires that we understand and recognize microaggressions, how they manifest in the workplace or classroom, and learn methods for addressing and reducing them. In this 90 minute session, participants will:

  • Explore the impact of microaggressions

  • Understand how microaggressions may show up in your specific unit

All staff and faculty have an essential role to play in creating and promoting an inclusive, respectful and equitable campus community that is free from homophobia, biphobia, transphobia and other forms of discrimination against LGBTQ+ communities. This foundational course will explore key terms and language, including the concept of intersectionality and the use of pronouns. In this 90 minute session, participants will:
  • Understand key LGBTQ+ terms and explore the nuances of inclusive language
  • Learn about the contributions of LGBTQ+ activists and community leaders

Building an equitable and inclusive UTSC community requires all staff and faculty to understand the historical context of race and anti-Black racism and its ongoing impacts on Black communities.  Racism is more than just individual actions – it is also a system that exists in our culture, in our institutions, and in how our workplaces function. In order to address anti-Black racism, we need to discuss and learn about how it manifests within these systemic and institutional structures. In this 90 minute session, participants will:

  • Develop a deeper understanding of anti-Blackness and its roots in Canadian institutions
  • Reflect on the barriers and challenges that Black communities experience at a local and systemic level
  • Recognize the signs and explore strategies to confront anti-Black racism
