Hanna Zhang | Luan (Jessie) Li

Luan (Jessie) Li and Hanna Zhang, two students in the Centre for French and Linguistics (CFL), have received University of Toronto Excellence Awards (UTEA) for the Summer 2017 term.

Jessie was awarded a UTEA to work with Prof. Yoonjung Kang for a project titled: “Interaction between duration, speech rate, and speaker age, and implications for sound change.” Jessie is double majoring in Linguistics and Psychology.

Hanna was awarded a UTEA to work with Prof. Philip J. Monahan for a project titled: “Exploring Speech Sound Representations: Features and Categories in Monolingual and Bilingual Speakers.” Hanna is a Co-op specialist in Psycholinguistics with a minor in French.

Each award provides a $6000 stipend to conduct original, supervised research in the CFL. There are only six awards across the entire campus and only four in Social Sciences and Humanities.
