Call for Abstracts

The Translation Studies & Career Path Association (TSCPA), in collaboration with the Department of Language Studies and the English and Chinese Translation Program, are excited to announce the second annual English and Chinese Translation student conference.

This student conference, scheduled to be held in-person on 10/11 March 2023, aims to provide a platform for burgeoning young scholars and translators to present their research into translation studies. This may involve important results gained from investigations into translation theory, or critical translations of texts considered significant to the field. The possibilities are endless.

The next step to realising this conference is the Call for Abstracts. Your proposals can be based on work you have already carried out in your ECT, LGG bilingual, and/or relevant LIN courses. Or it can be something entirely new. We accept both in-progress and completed research/projects, and especially welcome proposals that engage with the following themes:

  • Translation and culture
  • Translation and gender
  • Translation and politics
  • Translation and society
  • Comparative study of Chinese and English
  • Critical comparisons of Chinese to English and English to Chinese translations
  • English and Chinese translation histories and theories

Abstracts should be in English and Chinese and be no more than 350 words/characters (字). They are to be submitted to the following email: events.tscpa@gmail.com by end-of-day on 17 February 2023. Proposals will be reviewed and those accepted to present their work will be informed no later than 23 February 2023.

Each presenter (or pair of presenters) will be given no more than 20 minutes, followed by Q&A.

Prizes

  • The top three presentations will receive an award
  • A certificate will be given to each participating student researcher
