2020 UTSC Teaching Award Recipient - Nadiya Subdar

The Department of Language Studies would like to congratulate Nadiya Subdar for receiving one of UTSC's Teaching Awards this year. Nadiya works with faculty and students in DLS as a Graduate Teaching Assistant for introductory French and French linguistics courses.

In her own words,

"As a francophone, it is gratifying to be able to give back to my community and help support students achieve academic success.  I appreciate working with students of diverse interests and professional backgrounds as I have learned to customize my pedagogy methods to meet their individualized needs. By promoting a respectful, nurturing, and empathetic learning environment, students feel safe and comfortable to seek help and participate in tutorial activities.

Success for me is when my students can achieve their learning goals and make improvements throughout the semester. As a teaching assistant, I have developed a passion for teaching, which I was not aware of in the past. Through trial and error, I have learned to understand that you get to know what you like with experience and time. In the future, I plan to continue my professional development in academia and complete my PhD."

Bravo Nadiya, keep up the amazing work!
