SULC 2023

CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

The Department of Language Studies (DLS) and the Linguistics Student Association (LSA) are proud to present the 10th annual Scarborough Undergraduate Linguistics Conference (SULC). SULC is an opportunity for undergraduate students to engage with their peers and present completed or ongoing research projects. The 10th annual SULC will be taking place Friday, March 3rd, 2023 at the University of Toronto Scarborough *in-person. (*Please note this is subject to change based on the University’s health and safety guidelines). Preference will be given to students who are able to attend in-person. If you are unable to present in-person, virtual presentations may be considered.

ABSTRACT REQUIREMENTS

One (1) page abstract (300 words max.) per research project. Abstract submissions are limited to a maximum of one (1) sole author and one (1) co-authored project per person.

We accept both in-progress and completed research. Abstracts must be submitted as a PDF to the LSA at linguisticsclub.utsc@gmail.com. Abstracts must be submitted by 11:59pm EST on January 31st, 2023. Submissions received after this deadline will not be accepted.

We accept submissions relating to any linguistics subfield including but not limited to phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics, neurolinguistics, computational linguistics, historical linguistics, language acquisition, language variation, multilingualism, comparative analysis...etc.

PRIZES

  • A first, second, and third place winner will be selected by the panel of judges
  • The top three (3) winners will receive a cash prize
  • Each student researcher that completes a presentation will receive a certificate
