Tasneem Mewa in India

Tasneem Mewa

If you ask me next summer, “neevu kannada maataadteera (do you speak Kannada?)”, hopefully I’ll respond, “houdu, svalpa svalpa barutte (yes, a little).” This is because, I am fortunate enough to be spending my co-op placement term as an intern with the Centre for Internet & Society (CIS) in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India. CIS is a non-profit organisation that funds and manages research projects on internet and digital technologies from policy and academic perspectives within the Indian political and legal context.

My work will be related to topics ranging from Internet Governance, Digital Rights, and the Future of Work. While adopting a feminist and critical lens, my role will include contributing to project and research objectives by writing blogs, developing policy briefs, report writing, attending conferences, and engaging with the media. I look forward to learning from and working alongside other interns and project supervisors within an environment that encourages and fosters institutional learning. Institutional and collaborative learning includes participating in weekly learning groups, adding to institutional readings lists, and or presenting your research.

I am grateful to be a recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Scholarship, the Scarborough-York Region Chinese Business Association Scholarship, and supported by CIS. If you’d like updates on my travels and my work, follow @tazmanfewa on twitter and stay tuned for an upcoming research forum website!
