Reenas in Tanzania

Reenas Mohamed

Hey everyone! My name is Reenas Mohamed and I’m extremely excited about traveling to Arusha, Tanzania very soon to work with the Tanzania Tourist Board (TTB) for the next three months!

The mission with TTB is to promote sustainable tourism domestically and internationally through raising awareness in innovative and dynamic ways, in order to contribute significantly to the social and economic development of Tanzania. I will be working in partnership with TTB to research, collect and document information focusing on the positive impact of cultural tourism enterprises (CTE’s), ways CTE’s support the economic empowerment of women and the ways CTE’s provide youth with employment opportunities. I can’t wait to begin my role as a Communication and Documentation Officer!

I’ve never travelled or lived on my own before so this all going to be a completely new experience! While this all may seem a little daunting, sometimes we need to get out of our comfort zones. Experiencing the diverse cultures and the amazing natural attractions in Tanzania is going to be amazing! There’s a reason Tanzania is often referred to as “The Soul of Africa”. From the wildlife to the breathtaking views of Mount Kilimanjaro and the beautiful beaches of Zanzibar I don’t think I’ll ever run out of things to do!

I look forward to applying the theoretical knowledge of international development that I’ve gained through the CCDS in a hands on process. I await the opportunity to meet new friends, try new food and gain new experiences in Tanzania! Thank you to the UTSC IDS program and the Queen Elizabeth Scholarship program for allowing me this opportunity!

Talk to you guys soon!

-Reenas xoxo
