Hello, my name is Insiya; this summer, I will be embarking on a 3-month QES internship (and Co-op work-term) as a Communication and Marketing Officer with VETA (Vocational Educational and Training Authority). The governmental organization aims to facilitate and provide training courses as well as competence-based education and training (CBET), whilst ensuring graduating trainees are well-trained to meet local labour-market needs. I will be situated in Mikumi-Morogoro, Tanzania (and potentially Arusha as well).
As a research assistant at UTSC’s Linguistics Laboratory and as someone who has volunteered at educational institutions (both internationally and in Canada), I am excited for this opportunity to combine my two interests – research and my passion for education. I am also excited to visit my father’s home-town after 20 years (and to see Mt. Kilimanjaro in person)! Also, I hope that I do come across opportunities to enhance my conversational Swahili, during this immersive experience.
