History

I am a PhD candidate of late imperial Chinese history. My interest focuses on the development of pre-modern Chinese wine and drinking culture at the height of the Qing Dynasty, the eighteenth century. I also pay attention to the sociopolitical challenges faced by the Qing state and people at this period, particularly the administrative problems such as bureaucratic corruption. I wish learn and answer what transformations eventually and essentially differentiated pre-modern Chinese empire from its Western counterparts.
