Biography: 

Alexandra holds a PhD from the Department of Sociology, University of Toronto. She is currently a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Guelph. In her dissertation, Alexandra examined the production and reception of food discourses and digital food culture on food blogs and healthy living blogs, with a focus on Canada and the United States. This work provided a theoretical development of authenticity and biopedagogy processes on these sites. As a sociologist, her research contributes to scholarly work on food, culture, health and the body. She has participated in several research studies on eating habits in Canada, and has co-authored pieces on ethical eating and vegetarianism that have been published in journals such as Sociology, Journal of Consumer Culture and the book Acquired Tastes: Why Families Eat the Way They Do (Beagan et al., 2014).
