Dr. Nana Lee

Dr. Lee holds a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Toronto, a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Michigan, and a Visiting Scholar at Whitehead (Broad) Institute, MIT. Her roles in the biotechnology industry include Senior Research Scientist for Ellipsis Biotherapeutics and Senior Research Scientist, Director of Application Science for DNA Software Inc. She currently holds the position of Director and Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream of Graduate Professional Development (GPD) for both Departments of Biochemistry and Immunology, Director of Mentorship and GPD for Graduate & Life Sciences Education (GLSE), Temerty Faculty of Medicine, and the Lead for Wellness, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committees. She teaches multiple courses including GPD and Design Thinking for Scientists and advises numerous student initiatives to help empower students to create their dream career pathways. She has presented to over 3000 learners at numerous keynotes and conference sessions throughout the USA, Canada, and Asia. 

Join Dr. Lee on Friday, May 6th, 2022, 10-11 am as she tells the story of her career and life journey as a Ph.D. student, postdoctoral fellow, industry scientist, and academic faculty as an Asian-Canadian woman and mother of three children. She will chronicle her challenges, and successes and provide practical tips and “secret” tools for your own career pathway in this interactive keynote session.

Title: Accepting our less than perfect Humanity: Unpacking and enhancing Self-compassion 

Presenter: Dr. Tayyab Rashid, a licensed clinical psychologist at Health and Wellness Centre, UTSC.

Description: When we achieve, we want more achievement. When we experience a setback, we berate ourselves.  Self-compassion is accepting our less-than-perfect humanity. This workshop unpacks elements of self-compassion and shares evidence-based techniques to cultivate more self-compassion

Title: How to Think About Your Future When Grad School is the Present!  

Presenter: Dinuka Gunaratne, Director of Centre for Graduate Professional Development (CGPD), UofT

Description: Graduate school is a time for focused study and intellectual endeavours. This focus sometimes can inevitably lead to blinders and tunnel vision. Many graduate students come to the end of their degrees and find themselves trying to figure out what is next. In this session, we will explore what it takes to think about your future strategically when grad school is happening in real time. How do you use the time you have during grad school to the best of your ability? How do you navigate change that may take both personally and professionally? How do you think through this in the context of career and professional endeavours?
