Statistics and Analytics Consulting Centre

Statistics and Analytics Consulting Centre

Welcome to the Statistics and Analytics Consulting Centre at UTSC. The centre comprises UTSC faculty with expertise in statistics and data analysis, willing to offer advice and practical support at every stage of a quantitative research project. Our goal is to promote sound statistical practice and empirical research at UTSC.  Our services are free-of-charge to UTSC faculty.

What we do:

The centre offers a comprehensive list of services covering most aspects of a statistical analysis. In particular, we can provide help in any of the following areas:

  • Experimental design & sample size calculations
  • Sample survey design & analysis
  • Methodological section of grant proposals / research papers
  • Statistical software (SAS, SPSS, R)
  • Custom statistical modeling & analysis
  • Interpretation & presentation of statistical results

If you would like to use our services, please send us an email with a brief description of your problem and the type of assistance you would like to receive. If we are able to help, a consultant will meet with you in-person to assess the nature and scope of the request and to arrange the terms of her/his engagement. Consultants will take on projects at their discretion and will not offer help with simple tasks, such as data entry or cleanup, nor with undergraduate teaching (UTSC already supports student learning in statistics courses through its Math & Stats Learning Centre). Our services are free of charge, but for significant contributions we suggest that the consultant’s work be acknowledged (e.g. co-authorship in papers with substantial data analysis).

Examples of projects that our consultants have undertaken in the past:

  • Indexing and analyzing brand & company loyalty in sample surveys
  • Evaluating the effectiveness of various teaching aids in relation to students’ performance and course perceptions
  • Assessing and comparing the severity of historical mortality events
  • Estimation of Ontario HIV incidences using the back-projection method
