Biography

Yu-Ling Cheng is a Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Applied Chemistry, and Distinguished Professor of Global Engineering at the University of Toronto. Her educational background is in  chemical engineering (S.B. and S.M. from MIT, and PhD from Stanford). Over the past seven years, she has focused her research and teaching interests on global engineering, and has been the founding Directorof the Centre for Global Engineering (CGEN) since 2009. In this role, she is spearheading efforts to align the research and educational mission of the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering (FASE) with global challenges.   Her current research projects include “Re-inventing the Toilet”, medical oxygen in The Gambia, and water purification in developing world settings.  
 She also leads the Food and Nutrition Security Engineering Initiative (FaNSEI) within FASE.
