The Inclusive Excellence Award in Biological Sciences was launched by the Department of Biological Sciences in 2023 to support Indigenous and Black undergraduate students in Biology. The Department has created this award as an action to remove barriers that have been documented in the literature, in alignment with the UTSC strategic plan, the University of Toronto’s response to the calls to action in the report of the Truth & Reconciliation Commission of Canada.
In 2023 the award includes:
- $1,000
- A 12-month Commuter Meal Plan
- Paid summer research opportunity
- Faculty Mentorship
To be eligible students must:
- Self-identify as Indigenous or Black
- Be enrolled in an undergraduate program in the Department of Biological Sciences at UTSC
- Be completing their first year of undergraduate studies in the 2022/2023 academic year
- Be entering their second year of undergraduate studies in the 2023/2024 academic year
