Congratulations to our U of T Scarborough Arts & Science Co-op Students for being recipients of the University of Toronto Student Leadership Award!

Every year, extraordinary members of the University of Toronto community go above and beyond. They mentor students, launch new programs, bring in teaching innovations, grow our community. They make U of T a place to be proud of, and U of T is forever proud of them. We honour inspiring people every year with a series of prestigious awards.
 
 

Rimsha Rahman is a fifth-year City Studies co-op student at UTSC. She is currently the Vice-President of Academics and University Affairs at the Scarborough Campus Student Union. Rimsha previously served a range of positions over the 4 years at the Political Sciences Student Association. She was also an Undergraduate Resident at the Scarborough Studies Collective and served as a student ambassador with the Community Development and Engagement Department. Rimsha completed her co-op terms at Employment Social Development Canada, where she supported various policy and program designs aimed at increasing access to post-secondary education across the nation. In the Fall, Rimsha will join the Department of Geography and Planning at UofT to write her MA thesis on access to education in Scarborough.

 

Aïcha Yasmine Touré is a fifth-year student in International Development Studies co-op and Public Policy. Aïcha has served as Co-president for Plan International – Because I Am a Girl UTSC and as Outreach and Sponsorship Director for the International Development Conference UTSC. She was a Residence Advisor for UTSC Residence Life Team, ensuring students’ safety as well as mentoring and supporting their professional and personal development. Lastly, Aïcha was a Policy Discourse Analyst for the UTSC Knowledge G.A.P research group and co-authored a published research study.

2021 Recipients

Farah Ahmad

Farah Ahmad is a fourth-year Public Policy co-op student at UTSC who is also minoring in Economics and Public Law. She is currently the President of UTSC’s Political Science Students’ Association, and editor for Margins Magazine, and the Student Recruitment Assistant at the Office of Admissions and Student Services. Farah was previously the Social Science Director on the Co-op Students’ Association and the Director of Corporate Relations for the Law Society at UTSC.

 

Farah Rahim is a fourth-year Public Policy co-op student at UTSC who is also double majoring in English. She is currently an Undergraduate Research Assistant on the study “Mental Health Support in a Writing-Intensive First Year Course” supervised by Dr. Maria Assif. She is also President of UTSC’s Students of English Literature and Film, and is a member of UTSC’s Sigma Tau Delta Chapter. Previously, Farah has served as a Student Recruitment Assistant at the Office of Admissions and Student Services, as a Campus and Events Ambassador for UTSC, and the Marketing and Events Associate for UTSC’s Co-op Students Association.

 

Vjura Senthilnathan

Vjura Senthilnathan is a fourth-year Neuroscience co-op student at UTSC who is also minoring in Biology and Psychology. She is currently the Arts and Science Co-President of the UTSC Co-op Students’ Association and the Director of Volunteers of the Alzheimer’s Society UTSC. She is also a First-Year Peer Advisor at the Office of Student Experience and Wellbeing. Vjura was previously the Psychology and Neuroscience Director on the Co-op Students’ Association, a research volunteer at the Faculty of Medicine at UofT, and an Admissions Student Mentor at the Office of Admissions and Student Recruitment.
