Setting a new milestone, the University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC) welcomed over 120 players to the 9th Annual UTSC Golf Day presented by Ellis Don.

The overcast day did not deter golf aficionados and enthusiasts from having a fabulous time teeing at the picturesque Deer Creek Golf and Banquet Facility. The day began with a scrumptious brunch, followed by some serious playtime on the course. While an expert instructor taught the newbie golfers various putting techniques and helped them practice their swings, the pros in groups of four enjoyed an 18-hole round.

To encourage the spirit of sportsmanship and healthy competition, a number of friendly and fun contests were held throughout the day, such as the longest drive, closest to the pin, and a putting competition where participants spun a wheel to find out what they would be putting with - a baseball bat, shovel, cane, badminton racket or a broom! Players got very inventive with their new putters. A new addition to the day’s tradition was a silent auction that allowed the attendees to bid on a host of exciting prizes.

The net proceeds from the event, to the tune of $30,000, have gone towards the Indigenous House – a unique, ecologically sustainable space seeped in Indigenous Ways of Knowing, for Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities to gather in celebration of Indigenous histories, tradition and culture, and a symbol of UTSC commitment to reconciliation.

We would like to thank the guests and all the sponsors for their support and investment in the realization of our vision for Indigenous House.
