This week, the University of Toronto Scarborough announced the creation of four new awards that will celebrate and honour the extraordinary achievements of our alumni. The awards also celebrate staff and faculty who promote and cherish alumni relationships and advance the mission of UTSC.

To be administered through the Development and Alumni Relations Office, the nomination period officially opened on May 28, and will remain open until June 30th.

“At UTSC, we value community, and our 60,0000-strong alumni community are a direct extension of those values. I am delighted to be able to formally recognize and honour the outstanding achievements of our alumni,” said Lisa Lemon, executive director of the Development and Alumni Relations Office, in a statement.

The first recipients will receive their awards at an in-person celebration in the Fall of 2022. The awards – an outstanding achievement award, a young alumni award, an inclusive excellence award, and a faculty and staff award for alumni engagement – recognize alumni, as well as staff and faculty, at various stages of their careers.

In particular, the Award for Alumni Inclusive Excellence speaks to the heart of UTSC’s values of equity, diversity and inclusion.

“With these awards, we honour the contributions of our alumni, our staff and faculty, who uphold and embody the mission, vision and values of our institution each and every day, and reflect our deep commitment to intentional inclusion,” said Wisdom Tettey, vice-president of the University of Toronto and principal of U of T Scarborough, in a statement. “I look forward to celebrating with our first recipients this Fall.”

The establishment of the awards and the nomination period were announced during the in-person Alumni Fest East – one of U of T’s many Alumni Reunion events.
