What’s your favourite course at UTSC and why?
I don’t have a specific favourite course but I enjoyed every Computer Science course I have taken so far. They are quite interesting and I enjoy working on my coding assignments! I have also taken LINA01 (Introduction to Linguistics), which was a fun course to learn.
Who’s your favourite professor at UTSC and why?
My favourite professor is Kathleen Smith. She is very passionate about teaching Mathematics. She makes it fun to learn anything even if the material is hard. She makes sure to deliver her points professionally. She is also very friendly outside class and is very approachable.
What’s your favourite spot on campus and why?
My favourite spot on campus is the hallway in BV where Tim Hortons is. I like sitting and waiting to see every person I know on campus there. For some reason, I always run into someone I know, which motivates me to sit there more often to socialize with others.
Why did you decide to come to UTSC?
I decided to come to U of T because of its outstanding reputation in all fields. It focuses on providing the best student experience, being innovative, providing the best support, and much more. When I visited UTSC, I had already decided that it is where I want to study for the next 4 years. The campus is thematic in terms of buildings’ design. The community is condensed, which made me feel less overwhelmed during my first year. The co-op program was also a bonus especially that is very convenient for a student to apply what they learn in their work field.
Why did you decide to become an SRA?
I became a student ambassador last year and started giving campus tours. I was amazed by how much the Admissions & Student Recruitment Office cares about its volunteers and employees, which made me want to become a part of their team. I also wanted to help applying students, especially that I was in their shoes one day and I know how overwhelming the transition may be.
Favourite movie/TV show?
The Haunting of Hill House. I watched this show 3 times and I wouldn’t mind watching it another 3 times! The plot is amazing, and it is full of foreshadows. Plus, I am still looking for a TV Show/Movie that can actually scare me. If you do know one, please let me know!
I love food from different cultures. The favourite I can think of is Shawarma, Ramen noodles, and Sushi. I also love fried food, especially fried fish and shrimps!
If you could give one piece of advice to your 1st year self what would it be?
Don’t procrastinate! Procrastination consequences are more severe in university. If you stay on top of you work, you will enjoy every moment you spend at school. You will also have time to spend the rest of your time on making friends and extracurricular activities. One more thing, if you ever need help, make sure you use all the resources the university offers to help you.
