The Race to Anti-Racism: Exploring the Journey to Decolonization

When
Wednesday, March 17th, 2021
5PM - 7PM EST

Description
In light of the violent murder of Indigenous, Black and Brown folx across the United States and Canada including George Floyd, Jacob Blake, Regis Korchinski-Paquet, Ejaz Choudry, Joyce Echaquan, and Breonna Taylor to name a few have caused a global response with calls to action to addressing ongoing racism. Companies, governments, museums, retailers, and many other organizations who name themselves apolitical have come out with action plans for fighting racism. How is this race to be deemed not racist or least racist become more about the optics of anti-racism rather than addressing systemic racism? What does this mean for us as global citizens and members of racialized communities?

This session will create space for dialogue and conversation through the examination of a growing trend towards anti-racism with a specific focus on how arts, culture, and media are complicit in this emerging trend. Facilitated by Anushay Irfan Khan.
