Prof. Fred Urquhart was vitally important in establishing a spirit of research and discovery at UTSC. His discovery of the Monarch butterfly’s migratory pattern is a great science story—one of innovation and collaboration. Urquhart rallied amateur volunteer scientists in his quest long before the terms crowdsourcing and citizen scientists became familiar. That spirit of engaging others to get involved continues to be a guiding principle at UTSC.
On September 30th UTSC and students from Highland Creek Public School dedicated a memorial garden to pioneering researcher Prof. Fred Urquhart and a great science story.
