Program Overview
U of T Scarborough French students will study both the structure and mechanics of the French language, and will also learn practical French for business and everyday use. Studies in French allow for a wide range of interests: French history and culture; the enhancement of practical language skills including translation; the study of how the language is structured and how it evolved and spread; the development of approaches to the teaching of French; and the exploration of the rich literature and cultures of the Francophone world.

- Explore different kinds of courses; this will also help with fulfilling breadth requirements and electives.
Develop Your Academic & Research Skills
- Schedule an appointment with your Program Librarian for in-depth research assistance with your assignments.
- Get writing support at the CTL Writing Centre.
- Drop by the Language Monitor Centre to get extra practice in reading, writing, vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation and more!

- Attend the UTSC Faculty Mix & Mingle Fair to connect with professors and learn more about their specialties.
- Start building your Co-Curricular Record (CCR) and search for Experiential Learning opportunities.

Year 2

- 1.0 credit of Language Practice courses, following from courses taken in Year 1.
- 0.5 credit as follows: FREB50H3.
- 1.0 credit in French Linguistics and 1.0 credit in Culture and 1.0 credit in French Literature (see UTSC Calendar for course lists) - taken in year 2 to 4 depending on course level.

- Further develop your general academic skills by attending workshops offered by the Academic Advising & Career Centre (AA&CC) and Centre for Teaching & Learning (CTL).
Apply Theory to Practice
- Consider participating in the Explore Program, the 5-week French Language program.
- Consider enrolling in FREC10H3 a service learning course that combines academic learning with hands-on learning within the community.

- Explore volunteer opportunities with local organizations to get involved in the Francophone community.
- Practice and improve your French language skills through Global Learning opportunities such as a Summer Abroad through the International Student Centre (ISC).

Year 3

- Consider competing for the UTSC Library Undergraduate Research Prize or Poster Forum.
Apply Theory to Practice
- Apply for a Summer Abroad in France Tours or an Exchange program in France, Belgium or Switzerland; visit ISC for details.
- Build on your skills and knowledge through relevant events offered through your department, student groups, DSL and the AA&CC.

- Run for an elected position in the French Department Student Association (FDSA).
