Zelda Abramson (Ph.D.) is Associate Professor in Sociology at Acadia University. Her teaching and research are primarily in the areas of health and methodology. She is presently involved in a trans-discipline research project on “Radon Risk and Remediation: Offering Solutions to Our Communities”.
Megan Aston (Ph.D., RN) is an Assistant Professor at Dalhousie University School of Nursing and teaches Community and Family Health Nursing. Her research focuses on maternal health care and empowering relations for mothers and nurses in community and hospital settings. Her ongoing work continues to concentrate on social justice issues for the health and well being of mothers, babies, and their families.
Douglas A. Brownridge (Ph.D.) is Professor in the Department of Family Social Sciences at the University of Manitoba. Dr. Brownridge is an expert on family violence with numerous publications and recognitions, including the 2006 RH Award for Outstanding Contributions to Scholarship and Research in the Social Sciences.
Ko Ling Chan (Ph.D.) is specialized in the research with family violence. He has conducted studies on the prevalence and risk factors of spousal violence, pregnancy and violence, etc. He is now directing a national study on child sexual abuse in China, funded by UBS Optimus Foundation.
Anna W. M. Choi is a Fieldwork Supervisor and also a Ph.D. Candidate at the Department of Social Work and Social Administration, The University of Hong Kong. She specializes in the assessment and intervention of Family Violence. Her current research includes spousal violence, in-law conflict and child abuse.
Karen Robb (RM, RN, M.A.) is a Registered Midwife and executive member of The Association of Nova Scotia Midwives. For her Midwifery Masters, Karen conducted a phenomenological study exploring women's experiences of unplanned cesarean delivery in Nova Scotia.
Christine Saulnier (Ph.D.) is the Nova Scotia Director of the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives and an active member of the Midwifery Coalition of Nova Scotia, the consumer group for midwifery in the province. She previously directed a programme of research focused on midwifery and maternity care at the Atlantic Centre of Excellence for Women’s Health.
Aysan Sev’er (Ph.D.) is Professor of Sociology at the University of Toronto. She is the recipient of numerous national and international awards for her work on violence against women. Her most current research focuses on extreme forms of violence against women in India and in south-eastern Turkey. She is the founding editor of the Women’s Health & Urban Life Journal and the recipient of the Canadian Person’s Day Award (1998), Canadian Sociology & Anthropology Association Service Award (2001), Daughters of Ataturk Award (2003), and the Canadian Women’s Studies Book Award (2004). Her new book on honour-killings in south-eastern Turkey is at the stage of an academic review. Her edited book (with J. Trost) is in the process of publication with WLU Press. She also organized numerous national and international conferences in the areas of violence against women, health, family & gender.
Ingrid R. Waldron (Ph.D.) is Assistant Professor at the School of Occupational Therapy, Dalhousie University. Her teaching and research focuses on critical perspectives on health and mental health, including how issues of race, gender, poverty, citizenship status and sexual orientation impact on health and mental health care and access. She is also interested in how power, privilege and socially constructed ideologies of race influence psychiatric labelling, diagnosis and treatment of racialized individuals.
