Rukhsana Ahmed (Ph.D.) is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication at the University of Ottawa. Her primary area of research is Health Communication with an emphasis on issues of culture. She has published in peer-reviewed journals such as the Journal of Cancer Education, Medical Informatics & the Internet in Medicine.

Maureen Baker (Ph.D.) is Professor of Sociology at the University of Auckland. Since receiving her doctorate from the University of Alberta in 1975, she has worked in Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Professor Baker has published numerous books and articles on family trends and policies and comparative restructuring.

Benjamin R. Bates (Ph.D.) is Assistant Professor in the School of Communication Studies at Ohio University. His area of specialization is public understanding of health protection and risk reduction messages. Dr. Bates’s works on public understanding of health and healing are published in Health Communication and the Journal of Medical Humanities, among others.

Brenda Gamble (Ph.D.) is an Assistant Professor, Health Studies Program at University Toronto, Scarborough. As co-investigator on the CIHR Team in Community Care and Health Human Resources, Brenda’s research focuses on employment patterns among Ontario’s allied health professionals. She received her PhD from the University of Toronto in November 2006. Her thesis results have been widely disseminated.

Hong-kin Kwok (Ph.D.) is Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology and Social Policy in Lingnan University, Hong Kong. His research interests are family care, family change and educational change. He is centre fellow of the Asia-Pacific Institute of Aging Studies of Lingnan University and Executive Board Member of the Research Committee on Sociology of Aging (RC11), International Sociological Association, 2002-2006 & 2006-2010.

Richard Cheung Lam (Ph.D.) is Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology in Hong Kong Shue Yan University, Hong Kong. His research interests are family studies and economic change.

Rudy Ray Seward (Ph.D.) is professor of sociology, has authored a book, book chapters and journal articles dealing with family issues, including demographic history, fathers and parental leave. Current research focuses on the impact of changing fathers’ employment and family patterns in Ireland, Sweden and the United States on involvement with children.

Leslie Stanley-Stevens (Ph.D.) is Associate Professor of sociology, has published journal articles, a Bible commentary, a book chapter and fiction. Most of her research has focused on work and family but other published work addresses religion, gender and the environment. She is currently completing a book entitled, Kid Pro Quo: Balancing Work and Family So That Everyone Wins.

The Women's Health & Urban Life: An International and Interdisciplinary Journal is generously funded by the Wellesley Central Health Corporation and is permanently housed at the Sociology Department, University of Toronto. The founder and the first general editor is Aysan Sev'er, University of Toronto.
