Master of Industrial Relations and Human Resources
In September 2007, the Master of Industrial Relations and Human Resources (MIRHR) graduate program, housed at the University of Toronto St. George campus, expanded and began offering courses to first-year MIRHR graduate students, at the U of T Scarborough campus. The MIRHR, an advanced graduate degree is creatively designed to educate students in the latest knowledge and best practices within industrial relations, human resources management and labour market analysis. Furthermore, students are given the opportunity to study with professors from a wide variety of disciplines and with accomplished professionals from Toronto’s Industrial Relations and Human Resources communities.
Currently, the U of T Scarborough campus hosts over 30 first-year MIRHR graduate students. The MIRHR degree is offered in a two-year or advanced 12-month Program option (offered at the St. George campus only). In the comprehensive two-year Program of study, the first year is spent acquiring a foundation in industrial relations and human resources, at the Scarborough campus. During the summer after their first year, students are given the opportunity to attain paid professional experience in the field by participating in a summer work term. The second year of the Program is held at the St. George campus and is characterized by core and fundamental courses in industrial relations and human resources.
At the Scarborough campus, classes are held on Wednesdays and Fridays, which allows students to work closely with faculty, as teaching and research assistants. In addition, MIRHR graduate students are provided with impressive office space, computer facilities, and full access to the staff and faculty lounge in the state-of-the art Management building. Finally, space is reserved for those MIRHR graduate students who require housing at Joan Foley Hall, a student housing complex, situated adjacent to the Management Building.
