22nd Annual Meeting

Aruba, Caribbean
February 6-13, 2010

The Winter Conference on Neural Plasticity is concerned with all aspects of neural plasticity: from development to aging, from learning and memory to pathology, from molecular to behavior. The Organizers seek to provide stimulating scientific sessions in a beautiful tropical setting. Symposia are held in the mornings and evenings and feature extensive discussion as the number of attendees is less than 100. Ample free time is provided in the middle of the day for relaxation, informal discussion and recreation. The meeting site is a beachfront hotel offering all the amenities of a tropical resort hotel.
We are please to inform you that we will be meeting in Aruba.  We have had many requests to take the group to Aruba before.  However, Aruba is considered one of the premier destinations in the world, and the hotels there are normally very, very expensive. Thanks to the global economic problems, and after much negotiating, we were able to get room rates for the Garden View rooms at the Radisson for U.S. $219 per night. This is an unheard-of rate at a major resort in Aruba. This is clearly a "once in a lifetime" chance to visit Aruba at rates that we can afford.

DATE AND PLACE:

February 6 - 13, 2010 at the Radisson Aruba Resort, Casino and Spa.   Aruba is Dutch, and a prosperous island, devoid of poverty. It has European, Dutch and South American flavors. There are many restaurants within walking distance of the hotel, ranging from reasonably priced bistros to world class restaurants specializing in haute' cuisine. There is a vibrant night life in Aruba, with large, glamorous casinos. Aruba is known for its crystal clear water, perfect for snorkeling and renown for its scuba diving.  The conference is scheduled from Saturday to Saturday to allow maximal savings on airfare; Participants should use the weekends for travel to and from the conference. The conference begins with the New Concepts Session on Sunday evening (Feb. 7th) from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Thereafter, all regular sessions are held from 8:30 - 10:30 a.m. and 5:00 - 7:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. The conference is open to anyone who would like to attend.

ACCOMMODATIONS:

The conference is being held at the Radisson Aruba Resort, Casino and Spa. You can get more information about the resort on their home-page www.radisson.com/aruba Near the top of their home-page there are links for a "Photo Gallery" and "Take a Tour" which you may enjoy.

The Radisson is an up-scale resort, located on Palm Beach, which is considered one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. This white powder sand beach stretches for miles. Google Earth http://earth.google.com has great photographs. All of the fine hotels in Aruba are located along Palm Beach. These hotels are all high-rise, with the exception of the Radisson, which is composed of three separately located low-rise buildings spread within their tropical gardens. The Radisson Aruba is located on 14 acres of beautifully landscaped gardens. It is the island's most lush, tropical, Caribbean-style resort, a Four Diamond oasis surrounded by fragrant gardens, exotic lagoons and cascading waterfalls. We felt that our group would appreciate this setting.

Following are our negotiated group rates (in U.S. dollars) for single or double occupancy (no meals included).  Room rates are subject to tax and service charge which is currently 22% and subject to change.  There is also a mandatory $5 round trip, per person Bellman gratuity and a $2 per person, per day Housekeeping gratuitity.

  • Garden View room, $219.
  • Partial Ocean View Room, $289.
  • Deluxe Ocean View Room, $349
  • Bonaire Suite, $509
  • Curacao Suite, $609

An additional charge of $55 will apply for each additional adult  (up to four adults per room).  Children ages 17 and under stay free in the same room with parents sharing existing bedding.

The one "down-side" of the great rates that we negotiated is that the rooms must be gradually released beginning at a much earlier date than usual. So, if you think there is any possibility of your joining us next year in Aruba, you will need to make your reservation as quickly as possible. You can cancel your reservation without penalty if the reservation is canceled more than 30 days prior to the arrival date.

Reservations can be made by either calling 800-333-3333 or on-line at www.Radisson.com/Aruba using our promotional code WCNP10.

If you make your reservations online, to the right of the changing photographs there is "Check Rates & Availability." Use the calendar to enter your arrival and departure dates. Next year's WCNP dates are February 6 - 13, 2010. After you have entered your dates, press GO. It will pull up a variety of room choices, ranging from around $500 - $800 per night. Don't panic. On the right side of the page, there is a space for "Search for Special Rates". Under "Promotional Code" type in WCNP10 (short for Winter Conference on Neural Plasticity 2010) and hit "Search". The rates will then drop to $219 for "Garden View" rooms for our Winter Conference, along with a number of other rates for more upscale rooms and suites. It will then give you your rate, and you can press "continue" to finish making your reservation.

Please do not delay in making your room reservation.  PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL RESERVATIONS MUST BE MADE PRIOR TO JANUARY 5, 2010, AFTER WHICH ALL ROOMS WILL BE RELEASED. The negotiated rates will also apply if you choose to extend your stay by up to 7 days by arriving early or staying after the official meeting dates, subject to availability at the time of booking.
