We're proud to announce that VGS^2 is part of the campus-wide Winter Mardi Gras!
Led by the SCSU and Best Damn Sports Club Period (partners in creating Child's Play Charity Day), the Winter Mardi Gras is a day filled with games, carnival attractions and a ton of variety displays happening all throughout campus. We are one part of an overall event, but we sure want to put one hell of a show!
- What: Winter Mardi Gras with VGS^2! Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Scene It!? Box Office Smash, and Guitar Hero (tentative).
- Where: TV Lounge, and all throughout campus
- When: Wednesday, February 4th 5-8:30pm
- Who: FREE for everyone! This is a day for campus spirit.
Please come and support this big initiative to revitalize campus spirit, something which was given a big boost by Child's Play and will continue to be boosted with events such as this!
Lots to come during the winter term. Please check back often!
Entry goes here.
Last year, we held one of the most unique and fun charity events of the academic year. We took over the TV Lounge, put up 4 TVs (1 of them courtesy of Keadin from generalgames.ca) and held an ENTIRE DAY of gaming! We also held a silent auction, of which our execs and friends/family donated their games and other items (including a signed Penny Arcade set courtesy of Gabe and Tycho). All proceeds went to Child's Play (http://www.childsplaycharity.org/), a great charity started by the Penny Arcade duo of which supports hospitals across the world (including Sick Kids in downtown TO) with providing entertainment and covering costs for young patients.
We're looking to do it all over again this year, with it being unbelievably bigger and better! We made a lot of noise and publicity last year and it's paying off this year with much interest from outside parties. All of which indicate that Child's Play may be our greatest achievement as a student organization, and perhaps as gamers who strive to care and dispel the common misconceptions about us.
Please watch your inbox and the club website for more information, but hopefully our advertising drive will be so massive that everyone would know where to go and what to do to help a great cause.
For an even more in-depth description of the event, see our Child's Play page or please head to our UR2 affiliate and sponsor GeneralGames.ca: http://generalgames.ca/?p=192
If you are itching for some Football (erm, Soccer if you please) action, then this tournament is for you! Every time I see a strike sail above the bar I cringe deep down inside. Help fix what you see on TV with your own brand of ownage on the virtual pitch!

Good luck to the participants!
Veterans of the UTSC Rhythm Revolution would remember that we ended our year not with a End of Year Bash (though we did have one), but with a LGBTQ joint event that was absolutely phenomenal! We provided the games and the LGBTQ provided the food and the great hospitality. We liked it so much that we can't wait to the end of the year; we're doing it all over again in November!
- What: Some of the best games this year! Games right now are TBA but expect Karaoke, Rhythm, Trivia and SSBB!
- Where: TV Lounge, Student Centre
- When: Wednesday, November 12th 5-9pm
- Who: VGS2 and LGBTQ combine our vast powers for a social night filled with gaming and FREE FOOD!
- How: FREE for VGS2 and $2 for everyone else! FREE FOOD provided by the LGBTQ means we expect all our members and visitors to thank them for their great hospitality!
Those who want a taste of how awesome our Child's Play event will be at the end of this month is more than welcome to come to the LGBTQ-VGS2 joint event! Always remember that attending any of our events qualifies you for one more raffle towards our BIG end-of-year draw!
Come on down for a night filled with good games, great people and an amazing atmosphere!

Yep, a night filled with physical gaming that will definitely get your heart rate up and burn a few calories! All games that will be featured are very easy to play yet difficult to master! Don't worry about looking stupid; our execs will take care of that...
- What: Fitness Night! Wii Fit, Samba de Amigo, Wii Sports and DDR

- When: Tuesday, October 28th 5-9pm (4pm is a possibility)

We have chosen Tuesday as an experimental date for members who could not attend the Thursday events. Please give us a shout if Tuesday doesn't work out for you! We are also looking at Wednesday as potential event days.
Remember that all events are raffle-eligible events. Simply showing up and playing some games is enough to get you one more chance at our big prize at the end of this year! Our survey will also be present for all of you who haven't filled it our yet. It's been very informative so far, and you can bet that your feedback has an impact in our decisions! In fact, it has already modified some of our plans. Your voice is important to us!

Do you wanna race? Come down to the TV Lounge on Thursday, October 9th for some high-speed action!
We will be featuring a whole bunch of racing for that person deep down inside who just wants to go really, really fast. This is the only way where you get to go extremely fast with people your age and not get arrested!
Our lineup includes the very realistic yet very crazy Burnout Paradise for the 360, and Forza 2 as an option. For those who hate players that are better than them and want to win in the last 5 seconds, we will feature Mario Kart Wii, and ONLY Mario Kart Wii for the Nintendo Wii. Freewheeling at it's best!
But just for our members, we will feature the ever-rare Gran Turismo: Prologue for the PS3! Not many people in the world own the PS3, so see it full in HD via HDMI on the TV Lounge screen!
We will also have a DS corner where Mario Kart DS will be the featured wireless game. It is indeed download-play, meaning if you do not own Mario Kart DS you can still play it with all of the players! Feel free to come with just your DS for some racing action. Please note that there may be a mini-tournament for Mario Kart. Details are forthcoming, please view our website for more detail!
This will be a member-restricted event, but non-members who are interested and do not want to obtain a membership can enter for $2. We will be offering memberships at our event for the same price as club week and orientation, $6 for new members and $5 for returning members!
Members, please have your cards ready. There are a small set of you that have forgotten or have not recieved your membership cards for various reasons. Please see any of us execs and we'll set things right.

Continuing our success from the UTSC Rhythm Revolution Orientation, we are presenting the 2nd annual Video Game Society Squared Orientation!
Many students are confused on what we were all about last year, or were unsure if a club based on Video Games would be any fun or inclusive. Our previous orientation dispelled all of these concerns away, and set the course for what was a successful maiden year. We hope to set the tone again this year with a meet and greet of students and executives alike, with a whole host of popular video games!
Included in the list is Rock Band 2 and Call of Duty 4 for the Xbox 360, and Mario Kart for the Nintendo Wii. We may also switch out for Soul Calibur 4 and/or Super Smash Bros. Brawl upon popular request.
So, what's the catch for a night of meeting new people and playing games with them? Is there a fee?
No!
Again continuing the tradition from last year, this orientation is FREE FOR ALL STUDENTS. Please feel free to drop in and see what we're all about!
- What: VGSS Orientation, meeting execs, students and playing games with them!
- Where: SL-222 (TV Lounge) in the Student Centre (next to the entrance closest to the TTC buses)
- Who: Everyone! There is no charge for this event.
- When: Thursday, September 18 5-9pm
We cannot stress this enough: THIS ORIENTATION IS FREE FOR ALL STUDENTS. Please come by and see what our club is all about! We will be ready for any questions and have the capability of signing up any prospective members.
Get ready to have the first in a series of fun-filled nights!
Along with the new academic year comes a new beginning!
Formerly the UTSC Rhythm Revolution, the Video Game Society Squared is a student club that has expanded it's scope to include all types of genres. We aim to facilitate and educate the student body about electronic gaming.
We will be setting up a booth during Club's Week (First week of the Fall session, September 8-12) where you can find information and ask questions about who we are and what we have accomplished in our first year as a club. Perhaps more importantly, we may be setting up some games for everyone to play!
- Who: Video Games Society Squared (VGSS), formerly the UTSC Rhythm Revolution (UR2)
- What: Video Game Society Squared Club Booth!
- Where: Meeting Place
- When: First week of classes, September 8-12
- How: Information is avaliable, as well as free play of assorted popular games! (Tentatively planned, based on avaliability of plugs)
Club membership, which gets you into all of our events for free is $6 for new members and $5 for past UR2 members. We gave away hundreds of dollars in prizes and had many, many events last year. It's a great value along with the benefits of meeting like-minded people of who can assist you during your academic career here at UTSC.
We will be running a mailing list for members and interested parties, so even if you're not sure or do not want to commit to a membership please sign up for the mailing list for regular updates.
Please e-mail us at vgss@utsc.utoronto.ca if you have any questions!
