Child's Play Gaming Charity Event - November 27, 2008: All day!

Gaming for a cause? We've done so before and we're ready to make it even bigger and better again!

The Video Game Society Squared and the SCSU along with many special campus and corporate partners are proud to bring an entire day filled with games and fun for the 2nd Annual Child's Play Charity on Thursday, November 27th!

The Child's Play Charity kicked off it's 2008 drive on November 6th. Child's Play is a grassroots charity run by gamers that benefits hospitalized children patients in North America and all over the world. Donations are distributed to hospitals which are then used to buy toys, games, books and even general costs associated with hospital life. Life in a hospital isn't an ideal place for a child to be, removed from all the things we may have taken for granted. For some of these children, a smile in an otherwise cold environment can be the best medicine.

Last year as the UTSC Rhythm Revolution (UR2), we had taken over the TV Lounge on a Monday, with surprising success and hundreds of dollars donated to the cause. This year we're going bigger with SCSU support, and taking over the majority of the Student Centre! Plans are ongoing however we're making ambitious plans of having major games of the next-gen console on multiple gaming stations, courtesy of all our partners and sponsors. You will be able to find just about any game during the Child's Play day, from Halo/Gears of War 2 to Castle Crashers to Mario Kart and even Rock Band/Guitar Hero: World Tour!

All we ask is a donation to the charity of anything you can spare towards the Child's Play charity. We are working hard to bring you as much games as possible so that gamers of all stripes, hardcore or casual can find something to play. You can meet old and new faces and forge new relationships, all within giving towards a great cause!

Find yourself short on time on Thursday or need a quick gift for the Holiday Season? Our Silent Auction is back and bigger than ever! This year the Silent Auction is outside the gaming area, thus all you need to do is look towards the club tables to find a massive breadth of items up for auction. Last year we had a companion cube, signed Penny Arcade books and spare games from execs. Just imagine what you can find this year! Not all items are gaming-related thus you can find something of value no matter what your tastes may be.

All proceeds go to charity, thus you not only donate to a great cause you can very well take home a great gift to yourself or your loved ones! Be sure to bid high though as we did have a bunch of snipers who took some killer deals at the end of the day. Putting a bid that is comfortably high can secure your item in the long run!

Volunteering!

To all VGS2 members, we are looking for volunteers for the day, especially for the Silent Auction. E-mail us at vgss@utsc.utoronto.ca if you are available for any part of Thursday, and we will get back to you ASAP! All volunteers are qualified for stamps under the Passport program, and of course if you are thinking of getting involved with our club at a higher level then opportunities such as this will greatly boost your credentials with us when we have positions early next year.

Silent Auction!

We also require items for our Silent Auction! If you have any spare gaming or general items that you don't mind parting with for Child's Play e-mail us at vgss@utsc.utoronto.ca with a list of items that you will be able to donate. This is a great way of getting our attention outside of volunteering, and your spare assets may be someone's treasure! All unused/unsold items may go back to the donor if requested, and you won't know if something has value until you try...

We would like to thank you all in advance for the consideration and will hope to see all of you at the 2nd Annual Child's Play Day!
