Applying for Summer OSAP
If you are planning to study full time (60% course load or 1.5 credits) in the Summer Session, you may be eligible for OSAP assistance. The type of application you need to complete will depend on your situation:
- You received OSAP for the Fall/Winter or Winter Session and maintained full time attendance throughout the session (as applicable).
Complete the one page application which is available at the Registrar's Office (AA142) or download the summer OSAP application here. Make sure you also download the instruction page. Submit this application to the Registrar's Office by the deadline date (see above - one term).
- You received OSAP for the Fall/Winter or Winter Session and you dropped to part time status.
You should complete the online application available on the OSAP website. When indicating the Program of Study, in the search box, type "Summer", and then look for "Summer UTSC + the program". Be sure to choose the correct study period (i.e. May 3, 2010 to August 20, 2010).
- You did not receive OSAP for the Fall/Winter or Winter Session.
You should complete the online application available on the OSAP website. When indicating the Program of Study, in the search box, type "Summer", and then look for "Summer UTSC + the program". Be sure to choose the correct study period (i.e. May 3, 2010 to August 20, 2010).
Reinstatement for OSAP
Students that picked up the first installment of their funding, but dropped to part time studies during the session are eligible to request a re-instatement if they are taking a minimum course load (60% or 1.5 credits) in the next session (same academic year). You must complete an OSAP Re-Instatement Application and submit it within the first 30 days of the start of classes in the second session.
Study Abroad and Other Programs
If you're thinking about studying overseas, the place to start your planning is at the International Student Centre (ISC). Their staff is available to meet with students to help them choose the appropriate program. You can visit the CIE website for information. Plan early because deadlines are often in January or February. Below is a brief summary of the programs and the financial assistance available. You may need to complete documents to give Power of Attorney to a trusted person. Power of Attorney gives that person authorization to pick up your OSAP funding on your behalf.
- U of T Summer Abroad
This program allows a student to complete a U of T course overseas in 4 to 6 weeks. Destinations include countries in Asia, Europe, Africa, Australia or the Americas. Financial assistance is available to eligible U of T students for most Summer Abroad programs. Many awards are offered through Woodsworth College, and range in value from $400 to $4,500. Students may also apply for OSAP or financial aid from their home province.
For more information, contact Professional & International Programs - Woodsworth College at 416-978-8713 or summer.abroad@utoronto.ca. Visit their website.
- Explore (Second Language Spring - Summer Program)
This program is a five week intensive language learning program in French. It is offered at various institutions across Canada. Bursary assistance in the amount of $2,000 is available through OSAP. Detailed program information and eligibility requirements are available at the Explore website.
- Student Exchange
UTSC has more than 130 partner universities (in 40 countries) that, each year, will accept a limited number of U of T students for study opportunities. In exchange U of T accepts a certain number from these institutions. Exchanges can be for one semester or an academic year.
Additional information is available at the International Student Exchange Office (ISXO). Students may apply for OSAP or financial aid from their home province.
- Study Elsewhere
The Study Elsewhere program is administered through Admissions & Student Recruitment at UTSC and provides an opportunity for a student to complete one year abroad. A maximum of 5 full credits will be considered for transfer. Students may apply for OSAP or financial aid from their home province.
