Students with Disabilities
This section of the website addresses OSAP assistance that is available to students with a permanent disability. If you self identify a permanent disability on the OSAP application, you must provide documentation. Your file cannot be assessed until we confirm that we have received the necessary document.
For OSAP purposes, a permanent disability is defined as "a functional limitation that is caused by physical or mental impairment that restricts your ability to perform the daily activities necessary to participate in studies at a post-secondary level or in the labor force, and that is expected to remain with you for your expected life."
At UTSC, the FAO works closely with AccessAbility, the office that is responsible for providing services and academic accommodations to students who have a documented learning, physical, sensory, mental health disability or medical condition. They will provide the necessary documentation to our office to confirm your disability. Visit their website for more information.
Full-Time Status
If you have a permanent disability as defined by the OSAP program, you are eligible to receive OSAP funding when you maintain a minimum course load of 40% per session (1 credit).
In order to familiarize yourself with important information about your student loan, makesure you read the entire section about government student loans.
Note: If you are a student with a permanent disability, you must immediately think about the above definition whenever you see the reference to full time studies in any section of our website. We may have inadvertently missed this notation.
